SUBJECT:  Academic Calendar

SPONSOR: The Faculty Executive Committee (FEC)

The FEC is sponsoring a faculty forum on Tuesday, December 13, 4:00-5:30 p.m. in Petteruti Lounge to discuss issues relating to Brown’s academic calendar.  The central issue relates to the Fall semester and the start date of classes; particularly when the first day of classes coincides with Rosh Hashanah.  We have changed the start of classes when this has happened in the past (2010) when the semester started the Wednesday before Labor Day.  This situation will occur again in the Fall semester of 2013 and 2021.  We want to hear your views about when to start the academic year, whether to have a Fall break, and whether we accommodate religious holidays.  We will need to vote on any calendar reforms at the February 7th faculty meeting. 

The FEC strongly encourages you to attend and make your views known.
