Professor
Beeman, Chair, opened the meeting at 3:08 p.m.
Minutes of the October 8, 2002 meeting were approved as submitted.
The Chair
introduced Russell Carey, Secretary to the University, and thanked him for
working with the FEC Task Force on Faculty Governance.
Professor
Beeman gave a Chair’s Report. He asked
for the FEC’s approval to extend special thanks at the November 5 faculty
meeting to Deans Joan Lusk and Tom Wunderlich for their many years of service
to the Graduate School. The FEC
responded favorably. Committee reports
from the College Curriculum Council, Graduate Council, and Advisory Committee
on Summer Studies were distributed to the FEC for review. At the October 29 FEC meeting, the Committee
will vote whether or not to accept the reports. The FEC agreed to include the committee reports on the November 5
faculty meeting agenda with the understanding that they be read thoroughly
before October 29.
The FEC,
members of the Task Force, Peter Richardson (Parliamentarian), and Russell
Carey reviewed the Task Force’s final revisions and motions to the faculty,
which will be discussed further at today’s Faculty Forum on Faculty Governance
at 4:00 p.m. The FEC decided that if
all the motions are rendered not problematic, they should all be on the agenda
for the November 5 faculty meeting. Any
motions not covered at the November faculty meeting will be carried over to the
December 3 faculty meeting as Old Business.
Procedures on
how to present the motions and amendments at the faculty meeting were
discussed. Twelve motions were reviewed
and some of the language either revised or deleted. After careful deliberation, a motion was made and seconded to
approve that all twelve motions be forwarded to the faculty for a vote at the
November 5 faculty meeting.
The meeting
was adjourned at 3:58 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cheryl A. Moreau
Secretary
